"Red Haired Girl"

Inspired by an image I found of a girl with red hair in a green dress. I just had to paint it! In this painting, I modeled the background to add a mysterious quality to it. I is amazing how so many people tell me that the girl looks like one of their nieces or cousins.

This painting was inspired believe it or not by moss growing on rocks. I liked the way the early morning sun light glowed on them. I began this painting by doing several thum nail sketches working out a composition that I liked. What would be better than to add a wolf to se off the theme "Secret Places"

I was inspired by an image of a Brazilian horse photo I found. This is a Mangalarga Marchador which have existed for centuries in Brazil. It is a magnificent riding horse. This painting shows him galloping with fierce energy in front of a wind storm.

Artist Statement
I am currently doing a series of works of a surreal nature based on the combination of Symbolism, Legends, Masks and Mythology.
Intrigued by these subject matters and their origins is the inspiration for the painting series I am now working on.
The main image or focal point in the paintings are rendered as if they were stone portrait sculptures or carvings. They are combined with natural elements found in nature such as seashells, floral elements, living creatures, etc., thus adding to the mystery of the paintings meaning through symbolism. Adding life like features such as realistic eyes to the artworks are intended to enhance the surreal uncanniness of the piece. It produces in effect that the stone sculpture is alive.
Through a lot of experimentation I have developed a unique technique for these new works of art; whereby many layers of textured paint glazes are applied. It takes several days to achieve the desired background effect for the creation of these distinctive works.
New synergies are generated by intermingling both traditional and modern forms, leaving the viewer with a glimpse into the unknown imagination. These pieces can be seen in the art gallery section of the website. Other works such as portraits are there as well.
